Matthew L. Wax represents employers in workers’ compensation litigation. A former in-house counsel for a national insurance company, Mr. Wax is very familiar with the internal workings of insurances companies, and handled more than 1,000 workers’ compensation matters in that role.

He is seasoned in providing pre-suit opinions with the goal of minimizing future exposure through proactive efforts toward matter resolution. Mr. Wax seeks to quickly and efficiently manage all related issues with the goal of minimal intrusion in to regular business activities. He manages every aspect of the litigation from start to finish – whether the case goes to trial or settlement.

Mr. Wax also has experience working at a private insurance defense firm, where he assisted clients in matters across Florida state. He has represented the interests of carriers and worked hand-in-hand with claims handlers/adjusters to achieve cost-effective resolutions.

In addition to his workers’ compensation experience, Mr. Wax defends and litigates on behalf of clients in first party recovery/subrogation matters, including:  

  • contractual, statutory and common law indemnity

  • duty to defend

  • breach of contract/warranty

  • workers’ compensation lien recovery

  • workers’ compensation statutory actions against uninsured sub-contractors

  • property and casualty

  • BI/PI

Mr. Wax has defended retail clients being sued by customers in premises liability, damage to personal property on premises and libel/slander cases. He also has experience assisting clients in medical malpractice defense cases representing nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, medical groups and physicians. 

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Wax was an attorney at other Orlando, F.L., area law firms, where he defended employers in various aspects of labor and employment law.

While in law school, Mr. Wax was an extern for the Supreme Court of Florida. He was also a law clerk for the Florida Attorney General’s Office in the Economic Crimes Division
