CHRISTOPHER W. MICHAELS focuses his practice on premises liability, automobile liability, insurance, art law, and art transactions including purchases, sales, consignments and commissions. Mr. Michaels is well-experienced in handling premises liability defense matters for insurance companies. He also has experience with handling art law claims and issues for private collectors, artists, and arts-related businesses. In the future, Mr. Michaels hopes to work with more arts businesses, including auction houses, museums, and cultural institutions.

Mr. Michaels helps his clients by working closely with them and determining the most effective ways to achieve positive outcomes. He has participated in mediations and arbitrations for insurance defense matters. He has also handled stolen art claims for artists and has helped private collectors consign pieces for auction with major auction houses. In addition, Mr. Michaels has helped draft consignment agreements for art dealers.

Mr. Michaels has accomplished many feats in his representative matters. He represented a private collector a U.S. Fish and Wildlife import seizure case, drafted a Petition for Remission to recover seized property, and successfully negotiated the return of property; he represented a private collector with major artwork that contained ivory, helped the client navigate new U.S. Fish and Wildlife restrictions on ivory trade and provided analysis to a large auction house in New York, which, after review, accepted the piece for consignment; he drafted a joint-exhibition agreement between a local gallery and a west coast gallery for an exhibit featuring artists from both locales; he assisted an author client with obtaining copyright clearance for a work of art appearing in a book; he drafted purchase and sale agreements and artist representation agreements for multiple gallery clients; he represented an artist in a censorship case against a museum; and he represented an artist in a stolen art case.

When not practicing law, Christopher enjoys training for marathons, cooking, and spending time with his family. Christopher currently lives in East Falls, Philadelphia with his wife and two young children.
