LAUREN M. BILASZ  is a partner in the firm's New York Workers’ Compensation Practice Group. She is dedicated to the defense of insured and self-insured entities in New York State. Ms. Bilasz’s work ranges across multiple industries, including construction, hotel, delivery, transportation, and home care.

Ms. Bilasz works proactively with employers, carriers, and third-party administrators to minimize exposure before and throughout the life of a claim, from advising on best practices for the reporting and investigation of accidents, collaborating with clients to formulate and update defense strategies, aggressively pursuing all available defenses at hearings, and pushing claims towards closure, whether through settlement or litigation, always with a mind towards cost-effectiveness and individual client preferences. In addition, Ms. Bilasz supervises all workers’ compensation appeals for Chartwell Law’s New York office.

Ms. Bilasz has successfully litigated many workers’ compensation matters before the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department, and was named one of the top appellate attorneys for 2013 by The Insider in recognition of her successful appellate record. She stays up-to-date on all legal developments and enjoys updating clients on the impact of same on their pending cases.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bilasz spent two years at a large workers’ compensation defense law firm in New York City, where she represented self-insured employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators from hearings through appeals before the Workers’ Compensation Board. She also worked for a general liability insurance defense law firm, where she represented self-insured property owners, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in all phases of pre-trial litigation throughout the New York State Supreme and Civil Courts.

While in law school, Ms. Bilasz interned for The Honorable Arthur J. Cooperman of the New York Supreme Court, Queens County. She also interned in the legal department of the international luxury brand, Chanel, Inc. She served as a law clerk at a small general practice law firm where she gained significant hands-on experience in such areas as personal injury, medical malpractice, and New York no-fault litigation, from inception through the appellate process.

While at Cardozo School of Law, Ms. Bilasz’s note was competitively selected for publication in the Cardozo Law Review, for which she proudly served as Executive Editor.
